By David Montgomery and Crystal Floyd

About This Exhibit:

David Montgomery and Crystal Floyd's installation, Zebra Longwing highlights one of Florida's more significant ecological relationships, that of the Zebra Longwing butterfly and its host plant the Maypop Passionflower. Montgomery and Floyd's installation illuminates this fascinating natural phenomenon through video imagery of the Maypop plant projected on physical representations of the butterfly's life cycle. The Zebra Longwing is depicted in sculptural form encased in its chrysalis, through its emergence and finally as a fully formed butterfly. Both artists derive inspiration from the natural world and human's relationship with it. Through this and other work they seek to find creative ways to emphasize the deep ecological connections between humans and other species featured in their work.
